Serial Display for Linux

About a year ago I received an old Ericsson cell phone. I always wanted to hook the display up to the computer and today, finally, i did it!

I use serdisplib (http://serdisplib.sourceforge.net) and the schematics provided there to drive the I2C LCD (it's from an Ericsson A1018s).

Under Ubuntu, testserdisp does:

  • NOT work with the onboard serial port (for whatever reason, have to check that)
  • NOT work with an FTDI Usb-Serial adapter (not enough power)
  • WORK with a Prolific USB-Serial Adapter
